Merry Easter.. & Emulators are a beautiful thing...
Yes yes all, Merry Easter and the rest of it. I hope you're all enjoying your easter eggs. And that's Easter...
Back to the reason for my post! Recently, I've had the urge to play some classic games which weren't on on the PC platform. At first - It was games such as... Street Fighter 2, Super Mario, Mario Kart, Mortal Kombat... do you know what console I'm talking about? Of course.. I'm talking about the SNES or Super Nintendo! It's amazing how some of these games haven't died, 10, 15 maybe even 20 years since their initial releases. Each time I play them (these urges to play the games of my childhood come back ritualy every so often) I realise how good they actually were, and all the memories come flooding back. I thought that since as though I'd managed to resource the good apps and places for games, I'd share the info as well as my nostalgia.
I usually progress to the next need to play something that came after the SNES. The game I usually go for then is.. [Super] Mario 64. I think the N64 was a great console and it seems to me like only yesterday it was released. I can't believe now, that it was 1996 and it's been more or less 10 years... Crazy how quickly time has flown.
Anyway as a passing thought I thought it'd be a good idea if I shared what I'm using as well as where to get them from. The emulator I'm using for the SNES is ZSnes. You can download that from the ZSnes homepage here: http://www.zsnes.com/. For the N64 after trying out various programmes, the best one I found was Project64. You can download that from Emulator Zone at: http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/n64/project64.html.
As for roms, I'm not sure if it's a good idea for me to provide links. But I have to say its fairly easy to track down the roms you might look for. One decent site for ROMs is Rom Hustler: http://romhustler.net. It has quite a choice of games for nearly all emulators possible. Another fairly good site for ZSnes roms is http://www.nerologic.com/. [I decided to provide a couple of links ;)]
